Advice Worth Taking: Meet the New IST Advisor

A new workplace has been added within the Interdisciplinary Studies main office and an addition to the staff has made the change worthwhile.  Patti Socha joined the department as a part-time academic advisor in February.

Patti’s professional background includes more than seven years in marketing with nearly four years as a college admissions counselor.  She earned her degree in English and journalism from Beloit College in Wisconsin.

Having recently relocated to the area from the Midwest, Patti is not only settling into her role at USA, she is also adapting to her new life in the South.

“I could not have asked for a better fit,” says Patti. “By being on a college campus, I feel that I

have found my home in Alabama. I am grateful for this opportunity because it fuses together my love of writing and counseling.”

In addition to being passionate about helping others reach their goals at any age, Patti relishes working in academia because she appreciates the sense of community that a college campus fosters.

During her free time, Patti indulges in a variety of creative pursuits.  She seeks out cultural events involving theatre, music, art, and food.  She has done freelance work developing presentations and designing

 marketing materials.

As an avid reader and writer, Patti enjoys collecting quotes, learning new words, and traveling—even if it’s a mere literary adventure.

Patti prides herself in being a life-long learner and currently participates in an interior design and photography class.

Patti is always interested in spending time outside, being active, and meeting new friends, though her favorite person is still her wonderful husband.

Please stop in and introduce yourself to Patti!
