"I chose the PA profession because medical school wasn't for me, but I still wanted a job in health care where I'd be able to challenge myself and be able to have the option to work independently as well as with a team of health care practitioners."

                    Ashley Shoquist

Hometown: Iron Mountain, MI

Previous Education:  B.S. in Health Science from Grand Valley State University, Grand Rapids, MI

Previous Medical Experience:  I shadowed at St. Mary's in Grand Rapids, MI; Dickenson County Memorial Hospital; and my family doctor's office in Iron Mountain, MI.  I also worked at Imaging Center of Pensacola before starting school.

Hobbies:  Reading, watching movies, FOOD, I used to like playing sports and physical activity before I came to this program (when I still had some free time),  music, drawing, and just hanging out with friends.

Family: I have a wonderful family, although I never get to see them because they live in Michigan.  I have a sister, Ivy (20), and a brother, Ben (19), as well as my mom and dad.

Advice to future students:  Make sure you have your finances in order!  Otherwise, you may get a not so nice surprise when they finally give you your bill and you realize you will be living in your car.  The financial aid package is inadequate-plan accordingly!  Oh yeah, and don't procrastinate (If I ever succeed at this, I'll let you know.)
