Tablewares from around the World

Many different kinds of pottery were brought by ship to the Louisiana colony. Ceramics from France, England, China, and New Spain were found at the Dog River site.

Historic Indian Pottery

Local Indian women made pottery for their own use and for trade to the colonists. Some decorative motifs can be attributed to certain native groups such as the Mobilians, the Apalachees, the Choctaws, and the Creeks.

Clothing and Personal Items

These small and often unique artifacts provide intimate glimpses about personal belongings of the plantation residents.

Food at a Colonial Plantation

Much can be learned about the diets of planter families and slaves from the study of faunal and botanical remains. What wild and domesticated foods did they eat?

Weaponry

Weapons were important in a colonial setting for defense as well as for hunting wild game.
