    Justine Harris


    Justine is a senior at South Alabama, majoring in Biology and minoring in Related Sciences.  After graduation she will be taking a year off from her education to intern at the National Institute of Health in Washington, DC. Her ultimate career goal is to continue her education in medical school, here at USA and become a physician.  When not leading in BSA she spends her time working in Dr. Borchert’s Genetics lab for directed studies. Justine enjoys being involved on campus as, a student assistant at JagSuccess, a member of Mortar Board Senior Honor Society, the Attorney General for the Student Government Association, a member of Phi Mu, and a member of Alpha Epsilon Delta.

    Bethany Stone

    Vice President

    Bethany is a senior at South Alabama, majoring in Biology and minoring in Psychology.  After graduation she plans to pursue a Ph. D in Cell Biology, a decision which she credits to the support and influence of the staff and students of the USA Biology Department.  Her ultimate career goal is to become a researcher and college professor.  When not leading in BSA, completing her degree, or working in Dr. Ni Chadhain's microbiology lab for directed study, Bethany enjoys reading, writing, and being involved on campus with Mortar Board Honor Society, National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and Chi Omega.

    Samantha Treadaway


    Samantha is a senior at South Alabama. Her major is Biology with a Related Sciences minor. She is from Gulfport, Mississippi and aspires to be a veterinarian.

    Mika Vakharia


    Mika is currently a senior majoring in Biology. With her degree she plans on applying to the physician assistant program here at South Alabama. Mika recently completed her research in computational genetics and has a paper in progress to be published. Her favorite aspect about the Biology Department is the welcoming professors who are passionate about their students’ success.  Along with BSA, Mika is an active member and secretary for Home Grown here on campus. Home Grown is a community food recycling initiative where post consumer food is collected and composted for future use. In addition, she is also a member of the pre-PA society.

    Hillary Swain


    Hillary is senior at USA. Her major is biology and she is currently working on a project on the ecology of blood parasites in Galapagos marine iguanas. She is the Director of Fundraising for BSA, and  she is also actively involved in many other student organizations on campus. When she is not too busy studying, she enjoys painting, reading, and playing with her dog.

    Katelyn Woddail


    Katelyn is a student at South Alabama. This is her third semester at South. She is a Biology major with a concentration in marine sciences, and she’s been a member of BSA for over a year! She moved to Mobile from St. Louis, Missouri to study marine biology by the ocean. She’s excited to see what this semester of BSA brings!

    Rachel Rodriquez


    Rachel is a senior Biology major Related Sciences minor in the Honor’s Program. She is concentrating in Marine Biology. She will attend graduate school to pursue a degree in Marine Biology but after graduation will be interning to learn more about her field. She is currently working on her Honor’s Thesis: Impact of the Oil Dispersant Corexit 9500 on the Early Life Stages of the Eastern Oyster, Crassostrea virginica. She is testing the lethality of Corexit and comparing it to the lethality of an alternative dispersant, oil, and the mixture of oil and Corexit in order to gain a better understanding of their effects.
