Dr. Jennifer Langhinrichsen-Rohling
Dr. Jennifer Langhinrichsen-Rohling Dr. L-R obtained her undergraduate degree from Brown University in 1984 and her doctorate in Psychology from the University of Oregon in 1990. She has 25 years as a licensed Clinical Psychologist and has amassed over 120 peer reviewed publications in her role as a scientist and professor. The majority of these publications focus on her longstanding interests in relationship and family violence (e.g., stalking, rape, physical abuse, and the inter-generational transmission of relationship behaviors), and adolescent risky, unhealthy, suicidal, and/or life-diminishing behaviors. Her most recent research is community-based, focused on under-served and disadvantaged populations, and occurs while integrating mental and behavioral health care into primary care and school settings. In particular, implementing, evaluating, and educating others to provide evidence-based, solution-focused and resiliency-enhancing interventions is a priority for Dr. L-R. Prior to Dr. L-R initiating and establishing the Gulf Coast Behavioral Health and Resiliency Center which she currently directs, Dr. L-R served as the Head of USA’s Youth Violence Prevention Program. She is an active member of the Gulf Region Health Outreach Program which was funded by a class action lawsuit resulting from the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill. Dr. L-R also participates on the Health Disparities Research Group-Community Based Participatory Research Dissemination Team which is located in USA’s Center for Healthy Communities.

John Friend
Dr. John Friend After a career as a legal investigator, John returned to school and earned his doctorate in Clinical and Counseling Psychology from the University of South Alabama. John’s clinical work is driven by his interest in the application of behavioral principles to understanding topics such as purpose, meaning and values, therapeutic relationship, and present moment focused work. His research interests include intimate partner violence, substance use and aggression in at-risk youth. John completed his APA-accredited internship at the Mississippi State Hospital where he gained extensive experience with inpatient populations. Upon completion of his internship, John returned to Mobile and was licensed by the State of Alabama as a Psychologist. He oversees the professional therapeutic staff of the Gulf Coast Behavioral Health and Resiliency Center which focuses on providing supplemental mental and behavioral health services in Alabama's coastal counties. John also has a private practice in the Mobile Area.

Cory Wornell
Cory Wornell Cory Wornell, MS, MPH focused on social work and psychology during her undergraduate work which lead her to be a counselor with adolescents in a residential treatment center following graduation. Her three years as a U.S. Peace Corps Volunteer centered on strengthening the leadership abilities of youth in Jamaica while teaching HIV education side-by-side with a group of teenagers and training new PC volunteers in cultural adaptation and integrating into the community. Due to the passions borne into her during this time, Cory decided to shift gears for graduate school and entered a dual master's degree program where she earned a Master's of Science in Applied Anthropology with a focus on Medical Cultural Anthropology and a Master's of Public Health with a concentration in Community Education. Cory did a program evaluation which targeted at-risk women in a community of Kisumsu, Kenya as her qualifying practicum. Cory is passionate about supporting people and has worked for or volunteered at numerous non-profit/governmental agencies.

daphnee
Daphnee Cherisol-Pierre In September 2015, Daphnee joined the Gulf Coast Behavioral Health & Resiliency Center at the University of South Alabama (USA) where she serves as the Project Operations Manager. Daphnee graduated with dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Accounting and Finance from Florida State University in 2009. In 2014, she received a Master’s Degree in Business Administration with a focus in Global Business from the University of South Florida- St. Petersburg. In 2015, she successfully obtained a certification as a Certified Fraud Examiner. Daphnee has 10+ years of governmental/grant accounting experience of which 6+ years of those years were obtained in a university environment. Daphnee has worked at Florida Department of Revenue, Florida Department of Health, and Florida State University.

Dr. Candice Selwyn Candice earned a Ph.D. in Clinical and Counseling Psychology from the University of South Alabama in August 2016. Prior to completion of her doctorate, she completed a pre-doctoral internship at the Medical College of Georgia/Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center Consortium in Augusta, Georgia where she received emphasis training on working with women who had experienced interpersonal trauma. Both her clinical and research interests focus on risk for and recovery from interpersonal violence and suicide-related behavior. Additionally, as a native of Mobile, AL, Candice is passionate about improving healthcare services within the Gulf Coast region, particularly among underserved, disadvantaged, and trauma-exposed populations. Ultimately, Candice hopes to promote healing among local survivors of interpersonal trauma by improving access to and quality of empirically-supported, trauma-informed services within the Gulf Coast region.

Rachael Davis Rachael joined GCBHRC in March 2016. She received her Associate of Art degree from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. While attending, she participated in the work-study program at the Alumni House planning on-campus events for the community. Then she participated in Troy University’s online tract until she was accepted to Faulkner University’s accelerated program where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. She is planning to pursue her MBA degree at the University of South Alabama. Rachael currently has 15 years of experience in administrative services. She previously worked in legal field and shipping industry in Mobile and has been a member of the community for over twenty years. Her passion is empowerment of individuals through higher education, technical training, certification, and the like offered throughout the Gulf Coast Region.

Norma Eubanks
Norma Eubanks Norma Eubanks has been a social worker since 1991 and received a MSW from the University of Alabama in 1995. She worked with Children’s Protective Services at the Baldwin County Department of Human Resources before beginning her own business completing home evaluations for the courts for adoptions and custody hearings, supervising parents’ and children’s visits when court ordered and private counseling services. Norma then became the Director of Social Services at North Baldwin Infirmary. Her last employment was with Federal Emergency Management Agency as a Community Relations Specialist assisting residents who had survived a disaster.

Stephen Schottgen Stephen is a licensed graduate social worker and is licensed in the state of Alabama. He received his Master’s in Social Work from The University of Alabama, and has Graduate studies in Educational Psychology from Universidad Centroamericana, in Managua Nicaragua, and a Master's in Psychology and Counseling from the University of West Alabama. Steve’s previous experience includes working with in-patient and out-patient substance abuse treatment, orphaned and abused teens in Nicaragua, and a non-governmental agency to ensure human rights were not being violated in the Nicaraguan correctional system. He has also worked in domestic violence and sexual assault education and prevention and has worked as a youth advocate with high risk teens. Stephen speaks fluent Spanish and is passionate about working to provide therapeutic services for undeserved members of the community.

Tori Daniels
Victoria "Tori" Daniels Tori is a Licensed Graduate Social Worker in the states of Alabama and New York. Tori received her BSW from The College of Saint Rose in Albany, NY, where she held field placements at a nursing home as well as an enhanced supported housing program for people struggling with mental health and substance abuse issues. Tori completed her MSW at New York University’s Silver School of Social Work. During her graduate studies, she interned at Albany Medical Center, spending time in both the Emergency Department as well as the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. Tori has served as an AmeriCorps summer volunteer in Phoenix, AZ where she worked with children from low-income homes to prevent summer learning loss. Tori has also worked as a NASM Certified Personal Trainer. Due to the variety of her background, Tori is passionate about integrated healthcare and very interested in providing therapeutic clinical services to promote holistic health and wellness, while empowering individuals and families.

Caitlin Anderson
Caitlin Anderson Caitlin earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Wake Forest University in 2012 and then spent two years working for the Wake Forest School of Medicine. She is currently a doctoral student in the Clinical and Counseling Psychology Program at the University of South Alabama. Caitlin's interests include health psychology, the integration of mental health care into primary care settings, and addressing socioeconomic disparities in access to mental health services.

Shannon Boone Shannon graduated from Western Kentucky University with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a minor in Biology. Additionally, she obtained a Master Degree in Clinical Psychology from Western Kentucky University. Currently, Shannon is a second year doctoral student in the Clinical and Counseling Psychology program at the University of South Alabama. Shannon’s predominant research interests involve suicide prevention. She also maintains clinical interests of prevention/intervention for suicide, interpersonal violence, and behavioral health.

Currently, Mallory is a first year doctoral student in the Clinical and Counseling Psychology program at the University of South Alabama. Dr. Ishara Ramkissoon
Dr. Ishara Ramkissoon Dr. Ramkissoon received her doctorate from the University of Illinois in 2005. She has been a licensed audiologist and speech therapist since 1989, having practiced in South Africa and the United States. Her research focuses on factors that impact human hearing and communication skills, including aging, smoking, and language background. In 2013, Dr. Ramkissoon was awarded two extramural grants addressing multicultural issues and a third grant focusing on environmental literacy and the health impact of pollution from the Gulf Region Health Outreach Program. She has 3 active research projects in her laboratory. Dr. Ramkissoon is a reviewer for national and international journals, and serves as Vice-President of the Board of Trustees for Mercy Medical in Alabama.

Dr. Phillip N. Smith
Dr. Phillip N. Smith Dr. Smith received his PhD in Clinical Psychology from Texas Tech University under the mentorship of Dr. Kelly C. Cukrowicz. Dr. Smith received his BA from Gettysburg College, an MS degree in experimental psychology from Villanova University, and most recently completed a 2-year postdoctoral fellowship at the Center for the Study and Prevention of Suicide in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Rochester Medical Center. Dr. Smith's research interests center on the understanding, assessment, and treatment of suicidal patients. In pursuit of this goal, his current research focuses on elucidating the interpersonal, psychological, and social risk factors for suicide and related behaviors with an emphasis on social, cognitive, and behavioral methods that more adequately address the complexity of human behavior compared to self-report measures alone. Although he is theoretically integrative in his approach, much of his research has been conducted within the framework provided by Thomas Joiner’s Interpersonal Theory of Suicide. Dr. Smith's long-term goals include the development of theoretically based, empirically supported assessment, prevention, and intervention programs for patients at risk for suicide.

Susan G. Williams, MSN, RN
Susan G. Williams, MSN, RN Susan G. Williams is a Registered Nurse (BSN) with a Master’s Degree in Community/Mental Health from the University of South Alabama and is a full time faculty member at the USA College of Nursing. She is also working towards a PhD in Nursing at the University of Alabama at Birmingham with a focus on Adolescent Mental Health, specifically Perceived Stress, Bullying, Salivary Cortisol and Depressive Symptoms in 9th grade high school students. She began working with Dr. Jennifer Langhinrichsen-Rohling after learning of common interests in Adolescent Mental Health. Together with other PhD Psychology students at USA and Dr. L-R, Susan helped to develop a School Climate Survey that is now being used in Baldwin County, AL to assess the overall climate of the high schools. The outcomes of this survey may help to develop interventions that will provide mental health support to this adolescent population. Susan received funding from Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society for a pilot study of 31 ninth graders in a high school setting examining “Perceived stress, bullying, pubertal status, salivary cortisol and depressive symptoms”. This pilot study is a precursor to her larger dissertation study.
