Courses

BLY 121 General Biology I 3 cr
Biology 121 is the first in a two-semester series of an introduction to biological principles. It is designed to meet the needs of students majoring in biology and/or other scientific disciplines (e.g., medical professionals, engineers, educators, etc.). Emphasis will be placed on the fundamentals of living systems, including the molecular constituents of cells, cell structure, metabolism, genetics, evolution and aspects of classification.

BLY 122 General Biology II 3 cr
This course is designed to provide freshman science majors with a broad understanding of plants, major invertebrate phyla, vertebrate morphology, plant and animal physiology, animal behavior, macroevolution, and ecology.

Biology 122 is the second in a two-semester series of an introduction to biological principles. It is designed to meet the needs of students majoring in biology and/or other scientific disciplines (e.g., medical professionals, engineers, educators, etc.). Emphasis will be placed on the diversity of life in form and function, including an overview of the biological Kingdoms with a detailed examination of plant and animal physiology.

BLY 352 Biol Terrestrial Verts - W 4 cr
The primary focus of this class is the evolution, characteristics, classification, life history, ecology, and behavior of amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals. Laboratory and field work emphasize local species.

BLY 455 Ornithology - 4 cr
This class focuses on the principles of classification, structure, distribution, migration, natural history and adaptations of birds within an ecological context. An intensive laboratory component consists of field & laboratory identification of birds by habitat, size, form, color, and sound. The field activities include multiple visits to a variety of locations around Mobile and Baldwin Counties as well as a Saturday Dauphin Island trip in April during the spring migration.
