GIST Minor

Requirements for a Minor in Geographic Information Science & Technology:

 

A minimum of 22 hours of Geographic Information Technology related classes. The student must take all three core classes (GIT 460, GIT 461 or 462, and MET 420) and three additional electives from the following: GEO 331, GEO 332 or MET 370, GY 301, GIT 442, GIT 461, GIT 462, and other GIT electives.

GIST Certification Information

The GIST program offers a certification in Geographic Information Systems and Remote Sensing Technology.  Students need to complete the following set of classes, obtaining a grade of B or better in each:

  • GEO 331 (Computer Graphs and Maps)
  • GEO 332 (Remote Sensing I)
  • GIT 442 (Remote Sensing II) or MET 370 (Satellite Meteorology)
  • GIT 460 (Introduction to GIST)
  • GIT 461 (Applications in GIST: Environment)
  • GIT 462 (Applications in GIST: Business and Social Sciences)

To apply for the certificate, students must complete the appropriate form from the Earth Sciences office (ELSB 136) at least two weeks before the student's graduation date.
