Student Spotlight Devery Stallings

Student Spotlight Devery Stallings

If you had asked me where I was going to college or what I was planning on doing with my life at the beginning of my high school senior year, I would have looked at you with a blank stare. I chose business, although the majority of my family works in healthcare.  At first, I was unsure of my decision to major in business, but now I can tell you with confidence that I made the right choice.  I am currently a senior in the Mitchell College of Business, majoring in Marketing, with a concentration in International Business.

This past summer, I interned with Distinguished Young Women, the largest and oldest national scholarship program for high school senior girls, that is headquartered right here in Mobile.  I did not participate in the program in high school but was drawn to this internship because of what Distinguished Young Women stands for: Scholarship, Leadership and Talent. What could be better than hanging out with 50 amazing girls from all over our country and learning about the marketing and communications aspects of this historic organization?  Joining Distinguished Young Women this past summer as a Social Media intern, was not only a fulfilling experience, but it also verified that my choice to major in marketing is exactly what I want to do for my career. I am forever thankful for the professors I have had in the MCOB who have pushed me to do more. Without their encouragement and advice, I would not have had the confidence to apply for the DYW internship.

Aside from being a regular MCOB student, I am also the Secretary of the Professional Sales and Marketing Club, a member of Kappa Delta Sorority, a member of the Order of Omega Greek Honor Society, and a student assistant for the USA Department of Human Resources on campus.  I call the Mobile area my home, but I’d love to see myself working at a large marketing firm or fashion-based company in a big city such as Atlanta or New York.  For now, I’ll be keeping my head in the books until I graduate in May of 2016!
