USA Bachelor of Science Hospitality and Tourism Management
The Bachelor of Hospitality and Tourism Management Degree offers an interdisciplinary approach to a career in the hospitality and tourism industry, the world’s largest service sector industry.
The HTM program course of study prepares students with both the management theories and operational competencies necessary to enter any segment of the industry upon graduation, to include lodging, restaurants and foodservice, recreation and special events, theme parks and attractions, travel and tourism.
In addition to the university’s general education requirements, students take classes specific to the hospitality and tourism industry, including an introduction to hospitality management, human capital management, organizational communications, hospitality law, hospitality and tourism marketing, ecotourism, adult training and development, facilities management, and global leadership.
As part of the degree program, students may select one of 4 additional advanced areas of hospitality and tourism management study, as follows: Lodging and Food Service Management; Sport, Events and Tourism Management; International Travel and Tourism Management; and General Hospitality and Tourism Management.
Rounding out the HTM curriculum is an internship or cooperative education work-study where students apply learned managerial and leadership skills while working in the hospitality and tourism industry along Alabama’s Gulf Coast region. Also, students may select to take a capstone research sequence, which prepares students to explore specialized areas of interest. With this expansive knowledge base, students are ready for numerous entry-level career opportunities upon graduation.
