First Year Career Advising
Career planning is not a one person, isolated adventure. Becoming familiar with our staff, resources, and programs can better prepare you to make good career decisions. Our expert advisors work with you one-on-one so you can:
- Identify your interests and values
- Evaluate and select majors
- Create a 4-year career success plan that’s ideal for you
- Explore career opportunities related to your career path
- Experience co-ops, internships and other experiential opportunities before you graduate
- Engage in the process of preparing for your job search or entry to graduate school
Employers are interested in communication, problem-solving, and technical skills, which can be developed through co-ops or internships. You are encouraged to explore co-op and internship opportunities to gain practical, hands-on experience in your field of interest and market yourself effectively on a professional resume. Some internships are available to you as soon as the summer after your freshman year. Schedule an appointment with a Career Services advisor to learn more.
Career fairs are not just for seniors!
Students that wait to attend career fairs during their senior year are missing valuable opportunities to network with employers. USA Career Fairs are a great opportunity for you to meet and learn more about employers in the area that are interested in hiring South students. So that you can start growing your professional network, you are encouraged to build rapport with industry professionals as early as your Freshman year. Stay connected with our calendar of upcoming events and be sure to attend workshops on how to get the most out of a USA Career Fair.
We are here to assist you in your career planning needs.
