Scholarship Basics

The University of South Alabama offers comprehensive scholarship programming for both incoming and current degree-seeking students.

Incoming Freshman Scholarships

USA has one of the most comprehensive scholarship programs in Alabama, and offers excellent opportunities to entering freshmen.  All high school graduates who have been admitted as a first time freshman and meet the Freshman Admission Scholarship requirements, funded by the Mitchell-Moulton Scholarship Initiative, by December 1st will be guaranteed a scholarship award. Students that are fully admitted by this deadline date are automatically considered– no separate application required.

However, there are also hundreds of other opportunities available to USA students, including those joining JagNation! Once admitted to the University, be sure to fill out the General Scholarship Application within your JagSPOT profile to be considered.

Incoming Transfer Students

Transfer Scholarships are awarded to incoming transfer students. Students accepted for admission must apply through the JagSPOT portal to receive consideration for these Scholarships. To ensure maximum consideration, it is imperative students are knowledgeable of the specific requirements associated with all scholarships awarded.

Current Students

USA offers scholarships for it's students at every academic level, many of which are based on a student's academic discipline, leadership, specific student interests. Be sure to fill out the General Scholarship Application within JagSPOT to be considered. The General Application allows students to be matched with potential scholarship opportunities. Awards and deadline dates vary, so students are encouraged to setup their profile early!

Students should first review and complete their JagSPOT profile and complete their General Scholarship Application. Visit our JagSPOT Instructions and Applying for Scholarships pages for more information.

Students should also focus on any opportunities provided to them through their 'Recommended Opportunity' list. Review specific criteria and required information, and be sure to complete any supplemental applications by their specific deadline dates.

Students can also...

  • Talk with your specific department to review any additional opportunities they may have.
  • Check with private organizations such as fraternal organizations, parent employers, community and local business groups, and local clubs. These types of organizations often offer external forms of financial assistance for your higher education goals.
  • Search national databases for external scholarship opportunities. Visit our External Opportunities page for more information.
