Discover! An Institute for Learning in Retirement

Discover!  An  Adventure in Learning is an Institute for Learning in Retirement, made up of  a community of those of retirement age who share a love of learning. Discover!  members design their own courses based on the interests and intellectual curiosity of the group. Classes are challenging and thought-provoking, with mind-stretching activities on a wide variety of topics. Additional activities may include luncheon lectures and field trips.  Courses and activities have a minimal registration fee to cover costs.

Lawn Care and Landscaping Design in Coastal Alabama

Lawn and Landscaping Design in Coastal Alabama is the first fall 2018 course offered through Discover! An Institute for Learning in Retirement at the University of South Alabama Gulf Coast Campus.

Sessions are Sept. 11, 18, and 25 at 1:30 – 3:00pm.    Session 1, Sept. 11: Lawn care in a coastal environment.  Ellen Huckabay, Baldwin County Coordinator, Auburn University Extension.  Session 2, Sept. 18: Landscaping with native plants.  Fred Nation, environmental consultant and author of Where the Wild Illicium Grows; Historic Plants of South Alabama and the Central Gulf Coast.  Session 3, Sept. 25: Landscape design in south Baldwin County.  Wanda and Bobby Brown, Wilsey Nursery.

Fee: $35 for the three-session course.
