The 2018 "Summer SoTL" - the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Academy was held on Monday, June 25 and Tuesday, June 26.

Summer SoTL aims to support faculty in improving student outcomes in the courses they teach. This is done using a framework of scholarly inquiry to inform and guide change in teaching practices. Participants can expect to come away with an understanding of the foundations of SoTL, SoTL in different disciplines, research methods, forms of dissemination, and SoTL resources.
Those who completed the academy will also draft a preliminary SoTL proposal for a classroom-based study in the upcoming year, which will be eligible for mini-grant funding.
We are looking forward to building upon the success of the 2017 cohort, whose projects were featured at the South Alabama Conference on Teaching and Learning in May 2018.
The academy was open to all full-time or part-time USA faculty who are interested in improving teaching and learning in their courses using a scholarly approach. Faculty who teach online are welcome; however, attendance on campus at the academy was required. Seats were limited and preference was be given to first-time attendees as well as those who have Fall teaching assignments and who can receive professional development funds through their departments.
All faculty were required to attend Day 1 (Monday, June 25). Faculty who will be moving forward with SoTL Studio mini-grant proposals were required to attend Day 2 (Tuesday, June 26) along with others who intend to develop their studies for implementation in 2018-19 academic year.
An award of $150 per day will be issued as professional development funds for eligible faculty upon successful completion of the sessions attended and related assignments.
