Scholarships & Awards
Geography presents several different awards to outstanding students and graduating
seniors each year at the annual awards ceremony at the end of the spring semester.
The Geography faculty select award recipients based on the established criteria:
To all graduating Geography majors with an overall grade point average of at least
2.5 and a Geography grade point average of at least 3.0. These students each receive
a current copy of
Goodes World Atlas.
To the single most outstanding graduating senior in Geography. This award honors Dr.
Wilson who taught in the Geography Department from 1969 to his retirement in 1996.
To the most outstanding student in Geography who is a graduating senior. This award
is named in honor of Dr. Rivizzigno who taught Geography full-time from 1978 until
2004 when she moved up to an administrative position in the College of Arts and
Sciences. She is now an Associate Dean for the College.
To a junior level student who has made significant contributions to Geography during
the year. This award recognizes Dr. Sebastian who started teaching Geography at USA
in 1967, served as department chair from 1981 to 2006, retired in 2007, and still
teaches Geography part-time for us.
To the outstanding student who has completed the GIS Certificate during the year.
To the most outstanding GTU/Geography Club Member.
