GEO 114: Intro. to Human
Geography

A. PURPOSE OF COURSE: The purpose
of this course is to introduce you to
the social science aspect of the natural/social
science known as geography. We
will look at the where and why
of the human environment (population, culture,
economy, geopolitics, and settlements).

Introduction to
Human Geography. 6th. ed., Upper
Saddle River, NJ: Prentice-Hall.
2. Nystrom Desk Atlas. (1995), Chicago: Nystrom,

3. Buy copies of each of the following blank RAND McNALLY
maps in the USA
Bookstore: Africa (2), Asia (2), North America
(3), South America (2), Europe
(2), and Australia/New Zealand (2).
C. GRADING SCALE: Your grade will be determined
by the following scale:
90-99 = A
80-89 = B 70-79 = C
60-69 = D 59 - below = F

E. EXAMS:
1. Exams One, Two, Three, and Four will consist of multiple
choice, true/false, fill
in the blank questions, and a map.
2. There will be no make-up exams given without prior
consent of the
professor. If you are
permitted a make-up exam, it will consist entirely of
essay questions.
F. MAP WORK: The map work is designed to
acquaint you with an atlas and
various human/physical landscape features.
There will be six homework
assignments, which will be
due
as assigned. The grades for the homework
assignments will be averaged.
You will be penalized 25 points for each late
homework assignment,
and I will not accept homework more than one class
late. All homework must be handed
in during the class period.
G. ATTENDANCE: Attendance is mandatory; you
are responsible for obtaining
handouts, lecture material,
homework assignments, and attending exams when
they are scheduled. Attendance
will be taken every class. Your attendance
grade will be calculated by
dividing the number of classes you have attended
by the total number of classes.
H. CLASSROOM MANNERS: Students are expected to
conduct themselves in
a mannerly fashion.
