Freshman Hammer Awards

|
History:
These awards were first made in 2000 and consist of Estwing-type geological rock hammers or "geopicks". Up to six are awarded each year to outstanding freshman students (those with the best academic performance in the GY 111 and GY 112 sequence of courses). Award winners do not have to be Geology majors.

Responsible Parties: All Geology faculty currently teaching GY 111 and/or GY 112 submit the name of the student(s) that they feel should win the award. As a general rule, each faculty member chooses the "best" student in their class(es). The Freshman Hammer Awards are administered by Dr. Doug Haywick, Scholarships
Co-ordinator in the Department of Earth Sciences.
