We would like to invite you to join us for an evening of festivities in support of the University Honors Programs.
The USA Honors Program attracts the best and brightest students to campus each year. Students in all academic units and many different majors participate in this program and add to the accomplishments. The Honors Program seeks to provide a greater array of opportunities to these talented students so that they might reach their full potential, earn prestigious national awards and scholarships, and bring recognition not only to themselves but to the university. At the core of the honors experiences are --undergraduate research, service-learning and study abroad. Many faculty across the university generously give their time and talent to the Honors Program by mentoring these students and directing their thesis work or teaching honors courses.
To help support this growing and successful research focus the Honors Program has created a fun fund raising event which has become an annual event, 12th Night Celebration. This Mardi Gras style tableaux was first held on the 12th Night after Christmas in 2012. This year we will hold it on Thursday January 9, 2014. This date, not exactly 12th Night, works out best for schedule needs. The Honors students have prepared a fun and entertaining show to answer the question of the theme – “Honors Got Talent???” All proceeds will go to support research and travel for the students in the Honors Program. Proceeds from last year were used to provide partial support for several students to attend the national conference recently held in New Orleans. At the conference several USA students presented their research and another was part of a discussion panel. It is also hoped that the Honors Program will become a more visible part of the university and more faculty will join us as mentors, seminar instructors and help recruit more talented students for the program.
Please consider joining us for this evening of fun and entertainment and learn if “Honors Got Talent??” The following gives complete details.
Mike Doran, Director of USA Honors Program
The USA Honors Program is proud to present a traditional celebration of 12th Night on January 9, 2014. Join us as we observe the end of the Yule time season following the 12th Day of Christmas and welcome the start of the Carnival season leading up to Mardi Gras. A traditional bal masque will be staged with the theme of “Honors Got Talent???” USA Honors students will present the tableaux and act out the scenes with some help from the audience. There will be music for dancing before and after the tableaux with drinks and hors d’oeuvres. Dinner will be served. The menu will be: red beans and rice and muffalettas with soft drinks and water. Genuine New Orleans King Cakes will be imported from Randazzo bakery and used to select our King and Queen. A cash bar will provide beer and wine for purchase.
