Honors Program



To apply to the University of South Alabama Honors Program, all of the following must be received by the University by the deadline date of December 6, 2013. Applications lacking any of the following will be considered incomplete and will not be reviewed by the Honors Admission Committee. If you have already applied for admission, or have been admitted to the University of South Alabama, items 1-3 need not be resubmitted for the Honors Application.

1. USA Admissions Application. Complete an application for admission to the University of South Alabama and submit it to the Office of Admissions with the non-refundable processing fee.

2. Official High School and College Transcripts. Request that your high school counselor mail an official copy of your high school transcript to the USA Office of Admissions and/or request that an official transcript from your college/university registrar be sent to the USA Office of Admissions.

3. ACT or SAT Scores. Request that your official ACT or SAT results be sent to the USA Office of Admissions.

4. USA Honors Program Application. Complete the University of South Alabama Honors Program Application Form and email it to the USA Honors Program. You must specially request this form when asking for a USA application package, or you can download the Honors Program Application Form in .PDF format for printing or viewing purposes if you have Acrobat Reader. If you do not have Acrobat Reader®, you can click on the graphic below for a free copy.

5. Two Letters of Recommendation. Letters may play a significant role in distinguishing between otherwise equally-qualified students. Letter authors should be asked to specifically comment on your intellectual capabilities and personal characteristics such as independent thinking, motivation, creativity, and willingness to be academically challenged. Letters should be emailed to:


Emailed letters must be sent from the official school or work email of the recommender, and the recommender contact information must be clearly included to allow us to contact recommenders.

. Emphasize to your recommenders that the letters must be received by the application deadline for your file to be considered.

6. Student Essay. Present your perspective on the topic below using relevant evidence and/or examples to support your position. The essay must be typed and must not exceed 500 words in length. Be sure to include your full name on your essay. Essays will be evaluated on the basis of:


1. appropriateness of response to the topic
2. development and support for your position

focus and organization

4. clarity and precision of ideas
5. language fluency
6. facility with conventions of standard written English (grammar, sentence structure, punctuation, and mechanics)
7. creativity


Essay Topic : "Time" Please discuss. You may interpret this term however you wish. You may focus on dominant or alternate meanings for this term, or a combination of these.

Students must also participate in an interview with the Honors Admissions Committee if selected for final consideration.

Note: All application materials must be received at the University of South Alabama no later than 5:00 p.m. on December 6, 2013 to be considered. Late or incomplete applications will not be reviewed. We highly encourage applicants to email the completed forms to honors@southalabama.edu, to ensure faster processing. Please ATTACH the Adobe Acrobat document to your email with the forms filled in.
