THE
ISHR DISTINGUISHED LEADER AWARD
The
International Society for Heart Research announces the ISHR
Distinguished Leader Award.
- This
is an award of high distinction that is conferred
annually to an individual who has made sustained
outstanding contributions to accomplishing the mission
and advancing the objectives of the ISHR. The
recipient is selected on the basis of a distinguished and
consistent track record of major contributions to the
Society. He/she will be recognized as a
distinguished leader in the ISHR.
- The
Award will consist of an award medal and an honorarium of
$1,000.
- In
non-Congress years, the winner will be recognized at the
meeting of the Section to which the recipient belongs.
- A
photograph and biosketch of the winner will be published
in Heart News and Views, and will be posted in the
ISHR website.
- Candidates
must be active members (or have applied for membership)
of the International Society for Heart Research
(membership application forms are available on the ISHR
website at www.ishrworld.org
or from Dr. Metin Avkiran, Cardiovascular Division,

Hospital, London SE1 7EH, United Kingdom).
- The
Award carries with it a requirement to attend the meeting
at which the award will be presented. Travel
expenses will be reimbursed up to a maximum of $1,500 [to
include coach class travel and a maximum of 3
nights hotel accommodation] when the Award
recipient is recognized at his/her own local Section
meeting, and up to a maximum of $3,000 when
inter-continental travel is required. The
registration fee will be waived.
- Candidates
will be nominated by current Section Presidents and the
President of the International ISHR. A nomination
letter (maximum two pages) describing the
candidates contributions to accomplishing the
mission and advancing the objectives of the ISHR must be
submitted to the Secretary General at the address below.
The winner will be selected by the International Council.
- Although
Section Officers are eligible for the award while in
office, self-nominations by current Section Presidents or
the current President of the International ISHR will not
be considered.

- Deadline
for receipt of nominations is October 9, 2009.
Nominations received after that date will not be
considered.
