In December 2002, the
International Council created a named lecture that was intended
to become a highlight of ISHR World Congresses and Section
Meetings. The lecture was named the “Janice Pfeffer
Distinguished Lecture” after the late Dr Janice Pfeffer, in
honor of her contributions to scientific knowledge. At the
time of her untimely death, Dr Pfeffer was a leader in the study
of cardiac remodeling and heart failure. It is the intent
of this Lecture to honor her memory and to recognize all that she
has done for her field, as well as to enhance the content of ISHR
scientific meetings by providing a high-quality presentation by
an internationally leading investigator.
The
Janice Pfeffer Distinguished Lecture is held at each World
Congress of the ISHR. In non-Congress years, the Lecture is
held at the annual meeting of one of the three largest ISHR
Sections on a rotating basis (2008-2011 schedule).
The speaker, however, is selected from the entire membership of
the Society. The Lecture is intended to be a high profile
event and should be scheduled as a keynote plenary lecture.
The International Council selects the speaker. The topic
of the Lecture should be in the field of cardiac remodeling,
heart failure and/or hypertrophy but the content should be chosen
to be of broad interest to the cardiovascular community.
The
speaker is reimbursed for travel expenses up to a maximum of
$1,500 [to include coach class travel and a maximum of 3
nights’ hotel accommodation] when the Award recipient
delivers the Lecture at his/her own local Section meeting, and up
to a maximum of $3,000 when inter-continental travel is required,
and receives a plaque and a $1,000 honorarium.
Additionally, the speaker’s registration fee for the
pertinent World Congress or Section Meeting is paid by the ISHR.
