I was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama. After high school, I attended the University of South Alabama. My first major was History and I signed up for Russian as my language due to my interest in Russia and the Russian people. After three years of Russian, I went to Russia for the first time. It was an amazing experience which changed my life forever! The following semester I added a Russian major and never looked back!

After graduating from the University of South Alabama with a degree in History and Russian Language & Literature I was accepted into graduate school at the University of Texas at Austin. I completed my MA thesis on Pro-Putin Russian youth groups and was accepted into the PhD program for Applied Linguistics/Pedagogy. My PhD dissertation focuses on e-portfolios, self-assessment, and formative assessment in the foreign language classroom.

During my time at the University of Texas I was involved in numerous projects which revolved around online learning (Rockin’ Russian). Professionally, I have a half decade of experience in language assessment and language teaching. I have taught both English in Russia and Russian in the United States. Most recently I was the Program Director for a Fulbright study abroad program in Moscow, Russia.

I am dedicated to the idea that everyone needs to learn a second, or even a third, language and that cross-cultural understanding can only make this world a better place to live!

I am extremely excited to be returning to my alma mater and to be teaching in the department where I began my academic career! I look forward to making an impact on my students and on the university community as a whole!
