Diversity and ecological roles of marine microbes including Bacteria, Archaea and their viruses using both culture-based and molecular biology techniques.

Recent Projects

Addressing the microbial diversity and activities within Mobile Bay and the northern Gulf of Mexico. Characterizing the life cycle and host/virus interactions of STIV, a crenarchaeal virus and Sulfolobus, an acidophilic thermophile. Initial survey and characterization of viruses associated with deep-sea hydrothermal venting on the Juan de Fuca ridge.
