Financial Aid:
Fellowships ar eavailable annually on a competitive basis. In addition, there are variable number of assistantships that are associated with externally funded grants and other fellowships. The current stipend for master of science fellowships is $13,600; for doctoral fellowships is $16,000 per year plus remission of tuition and out-of-state fees.

Cost of Study:
The basic fees in 2004-2005 amount to $167 per semester plus course fees of $240.00 per semester .
Out-of-state fee is $334 per semester hour.

Cost of Living:
In Mobile, students can easily find houses or apartments on or near campus. Rents range from $200 to $400 per month. Currently housing at the Sea Lab includes student efficiency apartment on campus at $180 per month including utilities. Summer dormitory room and board are available at $115 per week (seven-day meal plan) and $106 per week (five-day meal plan) during summer.

Applying:
Applications for admission and fellowships are accepted through the year with enrollment normally beginning in the fall semester. However, early application is encouraged because the admission committee will make initial recommendation by April 1 for fall semester enrollment.

Minimum requirements for consideration for admission are a baccalaureate degree in a discipline related to marine sciences (e.g. biology, chemistry, geology, physics), a GPA of 3.0 (4.0 point system) and GRE General Test score of 1100 for the master of science program; 1100 is required for the doctoral program (combined verbal and quantitative) or an M.S. in a related discipline.

For students with an M.S. degree in a discipline related to marine sciences, a minimum graduate grade point average of 3.25 is required for admission to the Ph.D. program. International students must submit an official score of at least 550 on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
