The Department of Health and Human Services has funded an $862,730 proposal for a post-baccalaureate Adult Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Doctorate of Nursing Practice program with Palliative Care Specialization.

Graduates of this program will earn a DNP degree and be eligible to sit for the Adult Nurse Practitioner exam and the NBCHPN Hospice and Palliative Advanced Practice Nurse certification exam.

The American Association of Colleges of Nursing has set a 2015 date for full implementation of the DNP as the entry level for advanced practice.

Requirements for Admission

The requirements for admission to the DNP program are located on the DNP Home Page and in the University of South Alabama Undergraduate/Graduate Bulletin.

While NAGP/DNP classes are taught online, all students enrolled in AHN 589 (first NAGP clinical course), are required to attend a mandatory three (3) day orientation. Attendance is required and will allow for questions and interaction with course faculty. Various clinical skills workshops will be held during the orientation. The dates are August 10-12, 2014 from 8am to 5pm.
