Phi Kappa Phi 2015 Induction: 

Phi Kappa Phi hosted its yearly induction on Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at 3 p.m.in the Student Center Ballroom at USA. The Scholar of the Year 2015 award was given to Dr. James H. Davis, Jr.

Phi Kappa Phi 2014 Induction: 

Phi Kappa Phi hosted its yearly induction on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at 3 p.m. in the Student Center Ballroom at USA. The Artist of the Year 2014 award was given to Professor Jason Guynes.

Phi Kappa Phi Lecture, Fall 2014: 

Dr. Sheri Fink, author of Five Days at Memorial, spoke on Monday, October 27, 2014. Five Days at Memorial is Pulitzer Prize winner Fink’s landmark investigation of patient deaths at a New Orleans hospital ravaged by Hurricane Katrina – and her suspenseful portrayal of the quest for truth and justice.

Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society was awarded USA's chapter 194 "Chapter of Merit" status in 2013. 

USA Chapter President Dr. Brenda Beverly announced, "We are honored to achieve the Phi Kappa Phi Chapter of Merit Award, which recognizes the high level of commitment our faculty and students bring to our society, as well as the longstanding support of the University of South Alabama for our chapter. This achievement is particularly gratifying as we work to expand Phi Kappa Phi's recognition of outstanding students on campus and student involvement in our chapter."

USA student Ariane Weidner won a national PKP Love of Learning Award in 2013.

Love of Learning Awards help fund post-baccalaureate studies and/or career development for active Phi Kappa Phi members. One hundred forty-seven awards, at $500 each, are distributed each year.

PKP Undergraduate Research Award 2013-14:

Mary Campbell, a student in the Department of Biology, won the undergraduate research award 2013-14 for her paper “CXCR4 Signaling in UVB-Induced Skin Carcinogenesis.” She received her award at the undergraduate research symposium this fall at USA.

2013-14 Induction of New Members and Presentation of PKP Scholar/Artist Award to Dr. Mary Townsley. 

Our annual induction of new members and presentation of the Scholar of the Year Award will took place on Thursday, November 7, 2013.

PKP Undergraduate Research Award 2012-13:

Tiffany Anderegg, a student in the Department of Pharmacology/Center for Lung Biology, won the undergraduate research award 2012 for her paper “Hyperspectral Measurement and Analysis of Cellular Fluorescence Signals.” She received her award at the undergraduate research symposium this fall at USA.

Robert Rook Lecture on Collective Memory:

Dr. Robert Rook, Director of Interdisciplinary Studies at Towson University and previously Chair of the Department of History there, gave a presentation on contemporary Arab memorials to the Arab-Israeli Wars on Thursday, November 15, 2012. This lecture was co-sponsored by the USA Chapter of PKP.

2012-13 Induction of New Members and Presentation of PKP Scholar/Artist Award took place on Thursday, November 8, 2012.

Congratulations to Dr. Zohair Husain, Associate Professor of Political Science, who won the Scholar award.

2011-12 Induction of New Members and Presentation of Artist-of-the-Year Award took place on November 16, 2011.

Congratulations to Dr. David Z. Durant, Associate Professor of Music, who won the award.

2010-11 Induction of New Members and Presentation of Scholar-of-the-Year Award took place on November 17, 2010. 

Congratulations to Dr. Anh-Vu Phan, Associate Professor and Graduate Coordinator of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, who won the award.

Wednesday, April 14, 2010: 

Dr. E. O. Wilson, University Research Professor Emeritus at Harvard and Honorary Curator in Entomology of the Museum of Comparative Zoology , spoke in the USA Health Sciences Building Auditorium. Lecture sponsored by Phi Kappa Phi, the Division of Academic Affairs, Jaguar Productions, and USA's Stokes Center for Creative Writing.

Friday, February 5, 2010: 

Dr. Norman Daniels, Mary B. Saltonstall Professor of Population Ethics and Professor of Ethics and Population Health at Harvard University gave a lecture, "Justice, Health, and Health Reform," at USA. Lecture sponsored by PKP, Academic Affairs, Heath Sciences, and the Philosophy Department.

2009-10 Induction of New Members and Presentation of Artist-of-the-Year Award took place on November 4, 2009.

Congratulations to Dr. Andra Bohnet, Professor of Music, who won the award.

USA Graduating Senior and PKP Member Joseph Kundukulam received a Phi Kappa Phi Graduate Fellowship for 2009-2010.

2008-09 Induction of New Members and Presentation of Scholar-of-the-Year Award took place on November 6, 2008.

Congratulations to Dr. Mark Moberg, Professor of Anthropology, who won the award.

2007-08 Induction of New Members and Presentation of Artist-of-the-Year Award took place on November 8, 2007.

Congratulations to Dr. Tracy Heavner, Professor of Music, who won the award.

USA Graduating Senior and PKP Member Sejal Amin received a Phi Kappa Phi Graduate Fellowship for 2006-2007.

2006-07 Induction of New Members and Presentation of Scholar-of-the-Year Award took place on Wednesday, November 8, 2006.

Congratulations to Dr. Scott Carter, chair of the Department of Math/Statistics, who won the award.

Dr. Sandeep R Shah, an engineer with NASA in Huntsville , spoke about "Unlocking the Mystery of Columbia ’s Tragic Accident through Forensic Analysis" on Thursday, October 19, 2006. 

Lecture sponsored by Sigma Xi and Phi Kappa Phi.

The PKP Spring 2006 Lecture, Christopher Dickey:

Deep Deliverance: American Savagery and Survival,” took place Monday, March 6, 2006. Mr. Dickey, the son of famed novelist and poet James Dickey, is Newsweek's Paris bureau chief and Middle East editor, as well as the author of several novels.

Fall Induction of New Members and Presentation of Artist-of-the-Year Award took place on Thursday, November 3, 2005. 

Congratulations to Dr. Robert Holm from the Department of Music, who won the award.

Spring Induction of New Members and Presentation of Scholar-of-the-Year Award took place on Thursday, April 7, 2005.

Congratulations to Dr. Madhuri Mulekar from the Department of Math/Statistics, who won the award.

Phi Kappa Phi co-hosted Alexander McCall Smith's lecture on Writing and Culture on Monday, November 15, 2004 in the Library Auditorium. 

Smith is the author of the Ladies' No. 1 Detective Agency series, including Mobile 's Book-of-the-Year selection, Tears of the Giraffe.
