USA Psychology Department and College of Education
Coursework in Applied Behavior Analysis

This program description is current as of April 11, 2008

Coursework

Coursework applicable to eligibility for BCABA (Board Certified Associate Behavior Analyst) is being offered beginning in Fall 2008.

USA does not grant certification. See BACB.com for details on the certification process. Eligibility for certification requires (a) three approved courses, (b) 500-1000 supervised hours of ABA work, (c) a bachelor’s degree, and (c) passing the exam. (Supervised hours can only be accrued when (or after) you begin the coursework. Supervision must be provided by a BCBA).

  • The first of the three approved courses is PSY 417 (offered in Fall, 2008).
  • We plan to offer the second of the approved courses, PSY 418 in Spring 2009.
  • Education will most likely offer the third of the approved courses in Summer 2009.

Directed Study/Practicum

The Psychology department also offers an opportunity to gain experience in an ABA setting (Little Tree inclusive preschool for children with autism and typically developing children). Currently, this experience has not been approved by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board but we are pursuing that approval and may have it by August 2008 when the Fall semester begins.

For additional information on the certification process, see BACB.com.

For general information about Applied Behavior Analysis please see the descriptions at the Association for Behavior Analysis International and at the Kennedy Krieger Institute.
