The Department of Psychology houses a new Ph.D. program in Clinical and Counseling Psychology (beginning in the fall semester of 2009) and a Master of Science program with an applied track and an experimental track. The Clinical and Counseling program will be a scientist-practitioner program providing training in both the asset-strength model traditionally associated with counseling psychology and the research orientation and training in providing treatment for serious psychopathology traditionally associated with clinical psychology.

The Master of Science program provides students with the advanced training in basic psychological knowledge. The experimental emphasis in the Master of Science program is designed to give students the theoretical and research background that will allow them to further pursue graduate study. The applied emphasis in the Master of Science program will provide students with knowledge in the basic areas of psychology as well as training in current theories, principles and methods of applied psychology. Students in the applied emphasis will be prepared to apply for the Ph.D. program in Clinical and Counseling Psychology and it is expected that some of these students will apply for this doctoral program.
