The University of South Alabama's Assurance of Compliance with Public Health Service (PHS) Policy on Humane Care and Use of Laboratory Animals is as follows:

The Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC):
 
  • Reviews and approves protocols involving the use of animals
  • Reviews and investigates concerns about animal care and use
  • Conducts semi-annual inspections of institutional animal facilities / laboratories
  • Responsible for oversight and evaluation of institution's animal care and use program
  • Monitors training program for faculty and personnel using animals in research

 
Animal Welfare Policy Statement

The responsible use of animals is an essential part of the research, education and service missions of the University of South Alabama. It is the University community’s responsibility to insure that these animals are used and cared for in a humane way. If you observe, or are informed about, inhumane or inappropriate care or use of an animal at the University, you should report the problem to the University so that action can be taken. You may address your concerns to the following, depending on your preference:

Although it is preferred that those reporting problems identify themselves, it is not necessary. Anonymous reports will also be investigated.
