David Gartman's current research project is a comparative-historical analysis of the relation between automobile design and architecture. Employing the cultural theories of the Frankfurt School and Pierre Boudieu, he is tracing the uneven influence of popular automobile culture on the high art of architecture. Articles based on this research have been published in Sociological Quarterly and Theory, Culture and Society . The project will ultimately culminate in a book entitled From Autos to Architecture: Fordism and the Aesthetics of Modern and Postmodern Architecture .
