Full Text:

ERIC does not have full-text articles, except for one-page digest, but it does sometimes LINK to full-text. Look for "Check linked full text sources."

(Try EBSCO's Professional Development Collection for more full-text education-related articles.)

Pub. Type

ERIC categorizes articles and documents by type. Select appropriate pub type when desired.

primary scholarly research

Those items which contain empirical or qualitative research concerning a selected group or groups and which present literature review, methods used, results and interpretation of findings.

ERIC Journal Articles(EJ) versus ERIC Documents (ED)

ERIC is a database that indexes both published information from magazines and journals and unpublished information called ERIC Documents.

Documents

Most ERIC Documents are available on the Second floor of the University Library in the form of microfiche. Use the ED ####### to locate the appropriate document in the ERIC microfiche cabinets on that floor. Printers for this format are located on this floor, as well as staff at the desk to help you with the process.

Using ERIC on the EBSCO service also gives you the possibility of linking to some full-text ERIC Documents online; most of those from 1996 to the present are available. Be aware though that NOT ALL of these documents are available in full-text format online even if the text at the bottom says: "Note: This title/volume is held by the USA Libraries. Full Text from EDRS".

Click on "Full Text from EDRS" and watch for the Adobe Acrobat icon. If you see it click on it and the full-text will open in Adobe Acrobat. (Should you not have this program, go to www.adobe.com and download the latest version for free!)

Journal articles

The library does not subscribe to all the journals indexed in ERIC. The text at the bottom of the record may say:

"Note: This title/volume is held by the USA Libraries. Check the SOUTHcat catalog for specific locations and formats."
or
"Note: This title is NOT owned by the USA Libraries."

Be sure to check the catalog for the location and format of those items we do own.

Occasionally you will find a linked record with these words at the bottom:
"Check linked full text sources." Clicking this linked text will take you out of ERIC and into another database which may have the full-text of the article.

Neither the document links, nor the article links, are an absolute guarantee that you can reach electronic full-text--but they are worth trying.

InterLibrary Loan

If all fails to get you to full text, either electronically or from a print copy in the library, you have access to InterLibrary Loan from a link on the library homepage. We will borrow articles and books for you from another library. Read the information and directions on the InterLibrary Loan pages.
