Course Descriptions
Dra 100: Theatre Workshop: Rehearsal and Performance
Practical experience in acting. May be repeated for a maximum of six hours. Prerequisite: Permission of department chair. 1 credit
Dra 101: Theatre Workshop: Technical Production
Practical experience in backstage work. May be repeated for a maximum of six hours. Prerequisite: Permission of department chair. 1 credit
Dra 102: Theatre Workshop: Special Activities
Practical experience in theatre areas other than acting and technical production. May be repeated for a maximum of six hours. Prerequisite: Permission of department chair. 1 credit
Dra 103: Theatre Symposium
A symposium required of all full-time drama majors meeting weekly to share and discuss theatre activities. Six semesters of successful participation required for graduation with adjustments made for transfer students. .5 credit
Dra 104: Introduction to Dance I
Introduction to dance theory, basic ballet, and jazz techniques, and terminology used in theatre dance. Designed to prepare the Student for performance. 3 credit
Dra 105: Introduction to Dance II
Introduction to dance theory, basic ballet, and jazz techniques, and terminology used in theatre dance. Designed to prepare the student for performance. 3 credit
Dra 110: Introduction to Drama
A basic survey of film, television, and theatre practice. Fulfills the Fine Arts requirement for Arts and Sciences. 3 credits
Dra 115: Acting for Non-Majors
An interactive course designed to introduce the non-major to the art and discipline of acting as both performer and observer. Through a sequence if exercises and practice, the student will be introduced to the actor's mode of thinking, creating, and working. 3 credits
Dra 120: Acting I
A workshop-lecture course in which fundamentals of acting for the stage are considered from a creative as well as a practical point of view. 3 credits
Dra 121: Acting II
A continuation of Beginning Acting I, this course emphasizes the creative process involved in the analysis and vocal interpretation of roles. Prerequisite: Dra 120. 3 credits
Dra 130: Stagecraft
A lecture-laboratory course in the fundamentals of stagecraft. 3 credits
Dra 131: Fundamentals of Stage Lighting
A lecture-laboratory course in the fundamentals of stage lighting. 3 credits
Dra 132: Costume Fundamentals
A lecture-laboratory course in the fundamentals of costuming for the stage, including basic sewing skills as they apply to the theatrical costumes. 3 credits
Dra 204: Dance Techniques I
A review and expansion of techniques, vocabulary, and history of ballet, jazz, and theatrical dance. Prerequisite: Dra 104. 3 credit
Dra 205: Dance Techniques II
An exploration of modern dance techniques, vocabulary, and history with ballet as their basis. Prerequisite: Dra 204 3 credit
Dra 210: Makeup
A study of the materials and techniques of theatrical makeup. 1 credits
Dra 220: Stage Movement
A workshop-lecture course in basic movement skills and theatrical stage fighting techniques. Prerequisite: Dra 120. 3 credits
Dra 221: Voice for Actors
A workshop-lecture course in speaking voice and articulation for performance. Prerequisite: Dra 120. 3 credits
Dra 250: Theatre Management
A basic course in the principles of accounting, purchasing, box-office management, house management, and promotion. 3 credits
Dra 261: Creative Dramatics
A practical course concerned with improvisational acting with children. Of special interest to students in Education and Recreation. 3 credits
Dra 290: Special Topics
Theatre and drama topics not covered in regular curriculum. May be repeated when subject varies. 3 credits
Dra 300: Advance Theatre Workshop: Rehearsal and Performance

Studies in character, plot development, and the one-act play form. Prerequisite: Permission of department chair. 3 credits
Dra 320: Acting III
An in-depth study of character analysis and portrayal. Prerequisite: Dra 121 and 122. 3 credits
Dra 321: Advanced Acting IV
A continuation of Advanced Acting I, this course emphasizes the techniques of theatrical styles. Prerequisite: Dra 320. 3 credits
Dra 330: Scene Design
The fundamentals of scene design for the stage. Prerequisite: Dra 131. 3 credits
Dra 332: Costume History
The study of costume history. 3 credits
Dra 340: Directing I
The fundamental techniques involved in directing a stage play: analysis, casting, and blocking. Prerequisite: Dra 120. 3 credits
Dra 350: Theatre History I (W)
A comprehensive study of the important contributions in theatre art from its beginning to 1640. 3 credits
Dra 351: Theatre History II (W)
A continuation of Dra 350 from the Restoration period to the present. 3 credits
Dra 400: Theatre Internship
Practical experience in stock, repertory, or touring theatre. Prerequisites: Junior status, Permission of department chair. 6 credits
Dra 431: Lighting Design
The fundamentals of lighting design for the stage. Prerequisite: Dra 131. 3 credits
Dra 432: Costume Design
The fundamentals of costume design for the stage. Prerequisite: Dra 132. 3 credits
Dra 460: Theatre for Youth
The reading and production techniques of plays for children and teenagers. 3 credits
Dra 480: Senior Thesis
A report of an original artistic or scholarly project. Prerequisites: Senior status, permission of department chair. 3 credits
Dra 490: Special Topics
Various topics of special interest to students of drama. Prerequisite: Permission of department chair. 3 credits
Dra 494: Directed Studies
Independent study under faculty supervision, involving research, readings, or artistic projects. Prerequisite: Permission of department chair. 1-3 credits
