AED National Convention

Important Event Information

*** End of semester ***

As the semester comes to an end, we want to encourage all members to take advantage of the opportunities available because officers will not be organzing too many events at the end of the semester. We have service opportunites such Habitat for Humanity, St. Mary's Home, and Children and Women's hospital. Also, there is still an opportunity to earn an other credit through the gift of the month for April. AED will be helping a few USA students with an item drive for the local women's homeless shelter called McKemie Place, which is a division of 15 Place. Check out the gift of the month section to see what items we need.

*** AED-BMD Picnic ***

Saturday, March 29 at Dr. Stanfield's house (see map attached in email). The picnic starts at 3:00PM and ends whenever (you can even camp out in the pasture if you wish). We will have volleyball, football, maybe basketball, a large campfire, s'mores and more. Spouses and children are welcome. We hope to see you there. If you are planning on coming to the picnic, please email Joseph soon so he can figure out how much food to get.

*** AED Initiation ***

Initiates need to check the attached sheet (sent by email) and make sure that everything is correct and notify Rylee if anything is incorrect. Initiates need to turn in $25 for their meal, and an extra $25 for each additional guest. The checks to AED can be turned in to Dr. Stanfield or Rylee, but they have to be turned in by this Friday, March 28th.

*** AED Bake Sale ***

The bake sale that was scheduled on Wednesday March 26th has been canceled. It has been rescheduled to Wednesday April 2nd. Emails will be sent out as the date approaches.

*** Donut Sale and Sponsorships ***

Donut orders are due Monday (2/25/08) and we will be delivering the donuts Wednesday (2/27/08). It really isn't difficult to get people to buy them, so just go around and ask.  Check with the departments in UCOM and also the administration buildings.  The Med School and Life Sciences buildings are usually good places to ask, as well.

As for sponsorships, if you've asked anyone to sponsor us for convention or if you plan on doing so, the deadline to have the money turned in is next Thursday (2/28/08).  There isn't much time left, and we still need money, so I hope everybody works hard this week and next to earn your fundraising hours and to raise the rest of the money needed for convention!!

If you have any questions regarding the donut sale or sponsorships, please email Melissa.

*** AED Bake Sale ***

There is another bake sale this Wednesday (2/20/08) from 8:30AM to 2:00PM. You may only earn a maximum of 2 funraising hours. Once again, we want to stress that all the goods need to be home baked and bagged. If going to convention, you need to make use of all these fundraising opportunities before we go to Dallas. As always, each batch of items will earn you a 1/2 hour of fundraising. Working at the bake sale for an hour will also earn you an hour of fundraising. If you have an questions, please email Malvika.

*** Atria Senior Living Bingo Day ***

On Saturday Feb. 23, AED will be passing out prizes to all bingo winners and possibly have door prizes at Atria. It's really close to USA's campus and if you have any questions, please email Rama.

*** Dog River Drain Marking (All Semester) ***

Instead of making one big event out of it Wes has decided to let people go out at least in pairs, if not more, to do some drain marking. He will assign you an area to do and provide you with the equipment (glue gun, markers, fliers, etc.). This another way for those of you that are not available on the weekends to still do some service. You can email Wes if you have any questions.

*** St. Mary's Home (Monday - Thursday only - All Semester) ***

St. Mary's home is open from 4:15PM to 5:15PM for recreation time and 5:15PM to 6:15PM for tutoring. You will need to call St. Mary's ahead of time at (251) - 344 - 7733 and let them know you are from AED. They would like to have no more than 4 of us at a time there so it is very important that you call, otherwise you may be turned away. Remember to sign the AED binder once you get there to receive service hours. You will receive 1 service hour for each hour you are there. You can email Wes if you have any questions.

*** Habitat for Humanity ***

There are three dates that Wes has scheduled for Habitat for Humanity. Those dates are February 23, March 22, and April 12. If you would like to sign up for Habitat for Humanity, either sign up for the event at an AED meeting before the scheduled date or email Wes.

*** Prehealth Workshop (1/31/08) ***

If you came to the Prehealth Workshop Dr. Stanfield held, you may have forgotten the webpage she showcased. The webpage is http://www.southalabama.edu/healthprofessions/. If you have any other questions, just email Dr. Stanfield.
